On the other side of acceptance
There’s a trait I got from my dad that I’m not a fan of. Whenever I catch myself showing it, I frown and say, “Hey, you can’t be like your dad.”
Recently, during one of those moments, I paused and took a deep breath. I told myself, “It’s in your DNA. You don’t get to just wish it away.” I accepted it fully — and then decided to take serious steps to manage it.
All the while I was half-denying this truth, I only put in moderate effort to keep it in check. When you don’t think something is that serious, you don’t treat it as seriously as you should.
But now that I see it clearly, I can finally tackle it properly, including getting external accountability. Imagine trusting just your DNA-wired self to fix exactly what you’re wired against!
