An ancestry of teachers

I wrote about the importance what could be termed ‘ancestral awareness’. So much greatness has been passed down to us in DNAs, but there is also another lineage worth talking about; of teachers. The uncles, aunties, wise men and women, who taught our biological ancestors and shaped their ‘mental DNAs’, before and within the classroom.

Perhaps the army in our veins includes not just our bloodline, but the influence of those who taught and shaped them. And we can tap into that too. So much wisdom, philosophy and value was instilled in the ones who came before us, and it adds to the depth of the start each of us received at birth.

I found myself thinking about this as I reflected on what I might someday pass on to my offspring (if I choose to procreate). But that thought also reminded me of the other ways I’m already contributing to this generational flow — through writing, teaching, and mentoring, from my biological nieces and nephews to the ones who call me ‘Uncle’ on Twitter.

I’m reminded to do more, and with greater attention and intention.

What will you be passing on? And hope you would be putting great care into the acquisition and refinement of it, to ensure you are passing down the right stuff.
