Ridiculously productive by design

A friend and I were staring at a palm tree, amused by its resourcefulness. This one thing produces wine, and becomes brooms, roofs, baskets, soap, cooking oil and more.

So I tweeted about how productive the palm tree is. One response stood out, with a Biblical reference to how we are even more productive than these wonders of nature.

It got me thinking of you and I. You process ideas in your sleep, wake up to imagine futures that don’t exist, conjure narrations your past, and then go ahead to make happen the life you made up in your head. Isn’t that incredible?

One human thought we could bridge a river. Another thought we could fly. One thought we could have all libraries in our pockets. Another said we could go to the moon. And we did it all. People like you and I.

The least of us, if there’s such a thing, is far more productive than the palm tree, which is already ridiculously productive.
